About
Ben and Lucy have decided to get married! Yes, we hear you say ‘about bloody time’.
Because its the 21st century, an age of aeroplanes, mobile phones, temporal disconnection and virtual everything we thought we’d keep a wedding blog. That way, we don’t have to feel quite as guilty for living millions of miles away from most of our ‘nearest and dearest’.
‘Who are these Ben and Lucy clowns?’
Well, Ben was born in 1975 in Christchurch, New Zealand. His mum is originally from Yorkshire and his dad is from Sydney. He moved to Darwin in 1984 where his parents took up residence at the Darwin Sailing Club. Ben has a younger sister called Amy, who is currently living in Melbourne. Ben moved back to England (via Atlantic/Mediterranean sailing adventures) in 2004. He is now busy saving the world as a Director of 40.7 and Sustainable Industries Ireland Ltd. – companies involved in something to do with green energy.
Lucy was born in Darwin. Her dad is originally from the US and met her mum (from Melbourne) when she agreed to join him as a fellow adventurer while he cruised the south pacific. They eventually came ashore in Darwin – a few weeks before Lucy’s older brother, Daniel, was born. Lucy’s parents very sensibly divorced sometime in the early 90s, but still appear to get along well most of the time and Lucy’s dad has remarried. Lucy went to uni in Adelaide and then moved to Brisbane for her PhD. After that she moved to London to be a post-doc, and is currently working for Queensland University of Technology, although they let her commute virtually most of the time. Which means she is still allowed to live in the UK.
How did they meet?
Lucy and Ben met through the Darwin Sailing Club when Lucy was still in high school and Ben was working for the Winter School of Sailing. Lucy had an enormous crush on Ben and was thrilled when he eventually invited her out to Rattle’n Hum, got her drunk and pashed her. That was in 1997…
Why have they decided to get married?
Ummm…. well, it sounded like a good idea at the time. Lucy still likes Ben, and Ben seems to think Lucy is alright. Lucy thinks Ben would look nice in a suit and Ben think Lucy wouldn’t look too bad in a wedding dress. Besides, they don’t get to see their friends and family very often these days and thought that a wedding would be a good excuse to catch up with people they miss.
When? Sunday 21 December 2008.
Where? The Old Treasury Building, Melbourne. See the ‘location’ page for more details.

Do you say anywhere WHEN you will get married? I could not find it anywhere. It could be a useful thing to know.

I will be in Melbourne on 16 July. Any chance of bringing the wedding forward a few months?
If not, I’ll just have to be there again in December.
Congratulations from a proud uncle.

Yep. There are different dates… but only in the comments. Just ignore the comments and you will be fine
The first dates are from our OLD wedding plan… The NEW wedding plan is for DECEMBER. Although, if you show up in April, you will get extra points for being so keen.
